Types of Classes:
Mysore
Open to students of all levels. New and beginning students are always welcome. Mysore-style practice is the traditional teaching method of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, South India. Students are taught the sequence of postures of Ashtanga yoga in an individualized format. Each student will move at his or her own pace with the guidance of the instructor. The room is open for two hours and students may walk in at any time during the session to begin their practice (remember to leave enough time for at least 45 minutes of practice).
Open Studio
Students have the opportunity to do their own practice in a group setting without the guidance of a teacher.
Led Ashtanga
This class will begin with the traditional flow of sun salutations and standing sequence that make up the Ashtanga Vinyasa Series. The class will then be led through either part or all of the Primary Series seated postures or will be led in an exploration of the 2nd Series postures; depending on the class. Dynamic and fluid, the true focus of this practice is the breath. Some experience in yoga practice is recommended, but all levels are welcome.
Primary Series
This class presents the full Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series - a challenging yet highly meditative series of 72 postures linked together in a flowing manner. Dynamic and fluid, the true focus of this practice is the breath. The session is taught in the traditional format with both the asana names and the vinyasa counted in Sanskrit. Some experience in yoga practice is recommended for this class, particularly an understanding and practice of Surya Namaskara A and B, but all levels are welcome.
Yin Yoga/Open Studio
The spirited Yin self-practice group offers a great way to catch up with community while balancing one's yang practice. The studio is also open to Ashtanga practitioners during this time...best recommended if one is able to draw inward in harmony with the chime of the Yin bell.
Ashtanga Light
Appropriate for all levels. Students will be led through the sun salutations, standing postures and a selection of the seated poses that make up the series. Perfect for those who are new to Ashtanga Yoga or those who are looking for a lighter practice.
$10 drop-in. (No charge to monthly members.)
